Hello everybody. I am reading the fountainhead for my 11th grade HS year. Usually im not a huge fan of the books I read, but I really like this one! There are some things though that it seems my mind just can't grasp. 1, why does Toohey strive to destroy Roark? I understand that it is a 'game' that him and some other critics played. They said something along the lines of 'telling peopole someone good is good is easy, but telling people someone bad is good is hard'. This is the reason that he likes Keating so much? He is easy to manipulate? But why would he want to do that to Roark? Wouldn't it be better to enlighten the public bye showing them what really is good?
2) Why wont Dominique marry Roark? I know she always has to take the hardest route possible, but she might find real happiness with him!
3) After Katherine went to Toohey with her problem, and told her that she really was vicious and a bad person, she says to him in a fit "Uncle, im not afraid of you anymore". It then says that she didn't understand what she meant at the time, but he did. What did she mean?
As you may have noticed, I am only on about page 515 in the book, so I am not quite done. If any of these questions are answered later the book please tell me so you don't ruin a big part :) Thank you VERY much for your help!
