I disagree, the revolution in Cuba happened because a corrupt & brutal regieme was in power led by the military Dictator Batista & backed by the United States Government.
Castro intially was not communist but was forced into communism with threats of American invasion as witnessed by the Bay of Pigs invasion by CIA trained Cuban dissidents. It was shortally after this that Castro adopted communism for defence against an imperialist United States.
Yes communism is an inefficient economic system leading to totalitarianism, however in Cuba it was adopted to defend it against American Imperialism
