My Namesake seems to think that Thatchers economic philosophy was a thing of beauty. He obviously didn't have to live through it or to suffer its socially destructive after effects. We are still paying the price for the Thatcher/ Reagan revolution in Britain, not least with the decline in social and community spirit set in train by the Hobbesian individualism and greed unleashed by Thatchers comprehensive misunderstanding of Adam Smith. Smith, was a moral philosopher and therefore predicted the loss of social justice inherent in capitalism which the current Labour government is trying to redress.
If you want to see Thatchers legacy take a look at the drug riddled former mining communities which she destroyed out of sheer vindictiveness and then tell me her ideas were beautiful. In truth she didn't even manage the economy very well relying on short term oil profits to impose her right wing agenda. She said "there is no such thing as society" and then proceeded to make it happen.
