When I saw Governor Bush the other day on Television, at the mansion in Austin, I was very sad. His demeanor, his expressions, his composure, it all portrayed sadness. I felt sorry for the man who has fought so hard to make us understand the real purpose of his mandate. I wondered what he could have been thinking as he talked to the press and joked around a bit. In the tone of his voice I could sense a little disappointment, perhaps a little cynicism. Yes, I felt sad, yet after thinking about this whole hell the country is going through, I realized that the way he felt was the right way, it was the way of the people.
All of the American people who really care about this country should feel this way today. A little sadness, a little cynicism, disappointment in a system we all trusted, a system which led us to believe all our lives that we could trust those above us to lead, in a proper, dignifying and courageous way.
There have been family feuds about this I’m sure. There has been nervousness on the , fights ensued in the streets, animosity grew in places where people socially interacted and gathered for common interests. The market was hurt, retirement funds for the elderly, possibly suffered severe damage. All week I talked to people in a daze, people expressing uncertainties about the future, shaking their heads in disbelief. This hanging doom over all of us, this sense of loss, this fear of the unknown, the split that has occurred between the cles, the ages, the races, the political arenas; all of this should be enough to make us all feel terribly sad, concerned about the hellish place this country is heading to, the shaky grounds we walk everyday. Perhaps this is how countries feel when they are at war.
An so it is with concern, but above all disgust, that I looked at you, Mr. Gore, Vice President, on TV last night, playing “foosball” with your family, a picture of serene and fun loving times. It is amazing to me that while this country you so claimed to love, this country you so promised to protect slowly falls in disarray, you can find it within yourself to prepare for a photo op and feel in the best of moods, happy as a clam, joyfully spending just another day with the Tipper and the rest of them. No sobriety on this very sobering occasion. No dignity of the office during a time when this Office should have been the most dignifying place for this country at shame. The seniors retirement funds you so claimed to want to protect, are now hanging by a thread thanks to the market swings of the past week or so. The youth you were so concerned about, today marching in the streets with large cardboard signs accusing others of stupidity and ignorance. The minorities brought on by some deable “minister” who should be “disbarred” from his religious dress if there is such a thing in his religion for the ways he is always so able and willing to put people against each other, to revive hate where hate had been subdued. All of this Mr. Vice President, all of this terrible, horrible tragedy the country has been put through, and yet you find it such fun, so relaxing, so optimistic of a moment.
Yet we hear the President, concerned about your well-being, worried of the stress this situation may have put you through. Not a word comes from Washington, not a single word to us the people, us, the measly people this administration has spent eight
Years reminding of how much they loved, how much they cared.
Are you doing this because your dignity is at stake? Are you really doing this because of the “will of people?” Mr. Gore, there have been many fraudulent ways of gaining a popular vote. Many of them have been discussed before. Cigarettes being offered to homeless, salvation being offered to others, racism used a weapon again each other in order to obtain a vote. Hollywood and its political asinine commentaries have tried to influence some; Black leaders have tried to influence others, Mrs. Lieberman played Jewish mom to some confused ones who needed a hand. Some were even told where to punch a hole, number 5 to be exact; so as to make sure the right name would be chosen.
Do you really call this the will of the people Mr. Gore? I can promise you that if a chance to cast a vote was given again to the people of America, all of them sir, even the ones that were not allowed to vote thanks to exit polls, even the ones that were intimidated away from the voting booths, you Mr. Would really learn the meaning of the “will of the people.”
Democrats will win this presidency most likely.
they will kill the military vote.
they have done a good sofar.
