Major part of what shaped Pope John Pauls view of the world was his experiences in Poland during the secound world war. He witnessed murder and aggression on a mive scale, at that period in Poland human life was rendered virtually worthless.

In the Popes mind and as he has said himself "murder is murder is murder". In Poland he saw the people being murdered and he saw people turn the other way.

The Regieme of Sadamm Hussein was deeply murderous. He ged and slaughtered thousands of Kurds and millions of Iranians. It's very troubling but if your conscience truly bothers you, you should perhaps examine who were Husseins friends when he was murdering Iranians. Who supplied him with the poisonous gas to gas the kurds with and why. If your conscience bothers you too much, you can always turn and look the other way.

I don't think the Pope was being anti-American, just anti-murder.
